CoCL2 6H2O Cobalt(II) chloride (CoCl2) is a chloride of cobalt. It is a red-pink powder and well soluble in water. The hydrated salt is pink in color, the anhydrate is blue. Because of this clear color difference and the fact that the hydration is easily reversible, cobalt(II) chloride is used for the detection of water. For this purpose, cobalt dichloride paper (filter paper soaked in a cobalt(II) chloride solution) is usually used as indicator paper. Cobalt (chloride) can cause allergic reactions (cobalt allergy).
