Leidapharm Loperamide HCl diarrhea inhibitor 2 mg, hard capsules Medicine [RVG 129566 UAD] Claims This medicine contains loperamide, which helps stop diarrhea by firming the stool and ensuring that you have to go to the toilet less often. What this medicine is used for This medicine is used to treat sudden short-term (acute) attacks of diarrhea in adults and children over 12 years of age. Not to be used if you are allergic to any of the substances in this medication. You can recognize hypersensitivity (allergy) by, for example, a rash, itching, shortness of breath or a swollen face. If this happens to you, stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor. • In children under 12 years of age. • You should not use this medicine if you have a 'megacolon'. That is a very dilated colon; a serious situation that can occur in patients with Hirschsprung's disease, Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, recognizable by a very painful swollen abdomen, fever and an accelerated heart rate. • If you actually have a blockage in the intestines, causing some watery stools to 'leak through'. This occurs with certain intestinal disorders. If you have persistent abdominal pain, if you have a high fever and/or if your stool contains mucus and/or blood. These symptoms may be caused by food poisoning or by an infection or inflammation of the colon. • If you have a bacterial inflammation of the large and/or small intestine, caused by invasive organisms (including Salmonella, Shigella and Campylobacter). • If you have severe intestinal inflammation (for example ulcerative colitis or pseudomembranous colitis due to the use of certain antibiotics). • In all cases where normal bowel movements should not be stopped.
