It therefore collects high in the atmosphere, where it is converted under the influence of ultraviolet light and ozone into dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) and further into methylsulfonylmethane (MSM). DMSO and MSM are readily soluble in water. They form the condensation nuclei necessary for the formation of raindrops. Without DMSO and MSM in the sky, there will be no clouds and no rain.
