What is this medicine used for? This medication is used to treat sudden short-term (acute) attacks of diarrhea in adults and children over 12 years of age. Not to be used with You are allergic to any of the ingredients in this medicine. You can recognize hypersensitivity (allergy) by, for example, a rash, itching, shortness of breath or a swollen face. If this happens to you, stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor. • In children under 12 years of age. • You should not use this medicine if you have a 'megacolon'. These symptoms may be caused by food poisoning or by an infection or inflammation of the colon. • If you have a bacterial inflammation of the large and/or small intestine, caused by invasive organisms (including Salmonella, Shigella and Campylobacter). • If you have severe intestinal inflammation (for example ulcerative colitis or pseudomembranous colitis due to the use of certain antibiotics). • In all cases where normal bowel movements should not be stopped.
