What is this medicine used for? This medication is used to treat sudden short-term (acute) attacks of diarrhea in adults and children over 12 years of age. Not to be used with You are allergic to any of the ingredients in this medicine. You can recognize hypersensitivity (allergy) by, for example, a rash, itching, shortness of breath or a swollen face. If this happens to you, stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor. • In children under 12 years of age. • You should not use this medicine if you have a 'megacolon'. That is a very dilated colon; a serious situation that can occur in patients with Hirschsprung's disease, Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, recognizable by a very painful swollen abdomen, fever and an accelerated heart rate. • If you actually have a blockage in the intestines, causing some watery stools to 'leak through'.
